A 54-yr-old man has died after being attacked by a dog in Sunderland, northern England last night, reports RTE.

Northumbria Police said he was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries but died later that evening.

A 44-yr-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of causing wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, reports RTE.

He was later arrested again on charges of murder.

The dog, which police said was an XL bully, was destroyed at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hudson, of Northumbria Police, said: “While our investigation is at an early stage, we do believe those involved were known to each other,” reports RTE.
