“IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!” tweeted US President Donald Trump no Monday after Iran announced it will no longer abide by the international nuclear deal is negotiated with several major world powers in 2015.
President Trump had already reneged on the deal, which he described as the “worst in history” but several other word powers, including a number of EU states continued to act as guarantors in order to keep Iran from abandoning the deal completely.
Despite the US removing itself from the nuclear deal the UK, France Russia, China, Germany and the EU itself, all still supported that agreement.
Tensions have soared in the Middle East in recent months after the US imposed sever sanctions on Iran and series of tit for tat attacks culminated with the US assassinating the General commanding Iran’s elite Quds Force in Baghdad following an Iranian backed attack on the American embassy.
With the death of Major General Qassem Soleimani tensions have reached an unprecedented level with the Iranian leadership promising to take revenge against the US.
In announcing that it will no longer abide by any of its restrictions in terms of the numbers or type of centrifuges and how much and to what level it can enrich uranium the Iranian government did say that it could begin to honour the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) again if sanctions are dropped.
