They did it! Ireland have beaten Australia 27-24 in the Guinness series

Ireland have capped their Guinness international series with a 27-24 win over Australia in Dublin this evening.

After a disappointing result against the All Blacks last week Joe Schmidt’s men came back in style to take the spoils in yet another gruelling game in the Aviva stadium this evening.

Ireland began the game with a high tempo and took the lead on the 18th minute when Paddy Jackson slotted a penalty over after severe pressure from the boys in green. The first try of the game didn’t come until the 24th minute when Henderson burst through the Australian defence to give Ireland a 10 point advantage.

Ireland found themselves further when Ringrose scored a try reminiscent of the great Brian O’Driscoll on the 34th minute, however Australia were let back in just before the break when Haylett-Petty crossed over after a mistake in the Irish defence.

With Ireland leading 17-7 at the break Australia came out much stronger in the second half when Kuiridiani touched down in the corner to reduce the deficit to just three. Things went from bad to worse for Ireland after Naivalu put Australia ahead after some superb build up play. Although Ireland were nit to be undone and Keith Earls touched down in the corner to give Ireland the lead once again with less that 15 minutes to go.

Australia pressed for another try but Ireland managed to hang on and claim a famous 27-24 victory.
