Ireland introduces first reverse bottle vending machine that will offer 10c vouchers to encourage people to recycle

Ireland has introduced its first reverse vending machine that will look to tackle littering and encourage more people to recycle.

The machine which is located in Market Square Shopping Centre, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, will operate for a year on a trial basis and will hopefully be introduced to other parts of the country.

Under the new initiative, the public will be encouraged to deposit clean plastic bottles into the machine for which they will receive 10c vouchers that can be used in local stores.

Organisers of the initiative say the recycled plastic will be used to produce packaging locally.

They added the initiative has been backed by Shabra plastics and Quinn Packaging.
