“A man aged in his 20s was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during this incident.”, reports Cork Beo, reports The Mirror.
“There have been no arrests at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”
This incident happened just two days after another assault on the city’s southside, where a woman was attacked on Gilabbey Street — only about 300 metres from Saturday night’s location.
Additionally, recent online footage has surfaced showing a separate altercation on Washington Street, where several men were caught on camera fighting in the middle of the road, reports The Mirror.
The video of the Washington Street altercation, recorded by a shocked bystander and widely shared online, has racked up thousands of views. It comes amid a series of violent episodes in Cork city in recent months.
Among these was the assault of a vulnerable homeless individual on Grand Parade back in May, reports The Mirror.
TDs condemned the May attack as “disgusting.”
Deputy Thomas Gould, Sinn Féin TD for Cork North-Central, expressed his concerns at the time: “The greatest deterrent to crime in our city centre is a visible Garda presence, but the reality is that there just aren’t enough Gardaí to maintain that in any meaningful way,” reports The Mirror.
