It’s said to have been a very successful meeting between Simon ‘Top Gun’ Harris and Indian community leaders in Dublin today.
The meeting was slated on social media however, with one witty user saying it was a meeting between “cowboys and Indians”.
Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris met with representatives of the Indian community to address growing concerns over a recent surge in attacks targeting Indian citizens. The meeting, announced by the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, aims to reassure the community of their safety and security while condemning the recent incidents as an “assault on the values of equality and human dignity that Ireland holds dear.”

The Ireland India Council, which fosters connections between the two nations, welcomed the Embassy’s strong stance against racism and xenophobia. The Council plans to use the meeting to advocate for recognizing recent assaults as hate crimes, propose a task force on hate crime and youth violence, and call for increased community policing and swift prosecution of offenders.
Recent incidents, including an attack on an Indian man cycling to work near Dublin’s Grand Canal and a six-year-old girl verbally abused in Co Waterford, have prompted the Indian Embassy in Dublin to issue safety advisories. Harris emphasized the invaluable contributions of the Indian community, stating, “Ireland will never tolerate racism.”
The meeting underscores Ireland’s commitment to its diverse population and strengthening ties with the Indian community, which numbers nearly 100,000 and significantly enriches the nation’s cultural and economic fabric.
