Irish carpenter living in Sydney helped tackle the perpetrator of the recent knife attack

A 38-year-old Irishman has emerged as one of the people who helped to subdue the Sydney attacker.

Named as Shane Donaghey, a carpenter by trade hailing from Co. Donegal, he and three others gave chase and pinned the attacker down until police arrived.

Shane suffered only minor wounds during the incident.

Himself and the other passers-by have been dubbed ‘true heroes’

It is understood that police are treating the attack as an isolated incident, and have confirmed that the attacker had a history of mental illness.
