Irish citizens are continuing to express their outrage after it was announced last week that Islamic State member Lisa Smith will not face any punishment when she is repatriated to Ireland.

Smith (38) is a former member of the defence forces and served as a stewardess on Taoiseach Bertie Ahern’s Air Corps plane.

Despite Syrian documents which show Smith trained young girls to use weapons in the former I.S capital of Raqqa the government of Leo Varadkar has as yet failed to enact clear legislation relating to the matter of citizens leaving Ireland to aid the Islamic State.

Many online have compared joining the Islamic State to joining the IRA or an organised crime gang in Ireland and posed the question ‘if one is punished why not the other?’

Smith who admits she went to Syria to join the Islamic State but in candid arrogance in interviews conducted in the Al-Hawl camp in North Syria, Smith says does not expect to be jailed.

The Irish government is also likely to allow another Islamic State terrorist, Uzbek man Alexandr Bekmirazev, who holds an Irish passport, to return to live in Ireland. He is not expected to face any consequences for his time as part of the genocidal terrorist organisation.
