Irish citizens have donated $1m to Native Americans who helped Ireland during the potato famine

Irish citizens have officially donated $1m to a Native American community in need of help during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an act of repaying kindness Ireland have helped the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Reservation with over 27,000 donations in the past seven months.

The act which has gathered momentum since March came about after it was uncovered that Native American Choctaw community donated $147 to Ireland back in 1847 during the height of the potato famine.

The latest findings have now uncovered that Ireland has contributed $1m to the fund which has raised just over $6m.

It is understood that the generous act by the Irish people hasn’t gone unnoticed as organisers of the relief fund uncovered that a flurry of donations had come from Ireland.

Although organisers initially thought they had been hacked, they soon discovered the generous donation that was given to Ireland during the famine.

The relief say the historic story has touched their hearts and the flurry of much needed donations along with lovely touching messages from Ireland in recent months will never be forgotten by the Native American community.
