Irish scientists working on Oxford University’s Covid-19 vaccine say its looking good with 70 to 90% efficacy

Two Irish scientists who are part of team of experts looking to develop a Covid-19 vaccine say results from phase three trials have proven to be positive.

Speaking on RTE’s Today with Claire Byrne programme, professor Teresa Lambe said the results are promising.

Lambe’s comments come after phase three results of the vaccine trial showed that it had an average efficacy rate of 70%.

However that number gets even higher if they change the dosing regime.

Speaking to the programme Lambe said the findings were fantastic news as it has shown to find no safety concerns.

The latest developments comes as Pfizer and BioNtech announced their vaccine results earlier this month, whilst Moderna also announced their results just last week.

Both companies say that their vaccine proved to be over 90% effective in trial participants.
