Irish tourists and fellow tourists from abroad have been warned to travel with caution as Spain has raised its terror threat ahead of the busy summer season.

According to The Express newspaper, the warnings come as the Spanish Government has grown concerned of ISIS threats in recent weeks.

The warnings which has prompted the Spanish Home Office to implement Operation Summer, have reportedly caused great concern in recent weeks after the Jihadi group Al-Muntasir, has apparently issued a number of threats in recent weeks.

The Express say the threats which target a number of popular destinations such as Barcelona, Mallorca, Alicante and Madrid, has now led to Spanish authorities to deploy 40,000 officers in tourist hotspots.

It is believed that the threats has also resulted in the country’s terror threat being upgraded to level four out of five, with Department of Foreign Affairs describing the threat as high.

Authorities say the latest operation will enforce the appropriate security measures in popular destinations in order to keep visitors safe and prevent any potential attacks.
