Not a day goes by without the bungling utility hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In the latest tale of Irish Water woe, it is alleged that the company is surreptitiously installing water meters in a bid to avoid protests and demonstrations.

The matter has been raised by a woman in Arklow, Co. Wicklow, who claimed that Irish Water staff showed up at her property unexpectedly and blocked her driveway for two hours while they installed a meter. The woman further claims that the workers told the residents that they had not been given notice of the works in an effort to avoid protests.

A spokesperson for the utility did confirm that a meter installation took place at the address in question, and added an apology for the lack of notice.

The spokesperson also denied the allegations of clandestine meter installations.
