The suspension of water charges has left Irish Water ‘in the dark’, it has emerged. The company has reportedly not received anything in writing in relation to its future.

A spokesman for the company said “No final policy change resulting from current political talks has been conveyed to Irish Water.”

“When we are informed by government of any policy decisions that affect Irish Water or water charges we will assess the implications of those decisions for our customers, our operations and for our staff.”

Water charges have now been suspended for a period of nine months, although they are unlikely ever to return.
