A 59-yr-old man who alleged pointed an air rifle at an Irish Water worker yesterday morning at 9:30am on Quay Road in Clarecastle, has been released from custody.

The man was arrested and held in Ennis garda station after he allegedly threatened a man who was installing water metres for Irish Water.

Witnesses say the workers “literally ran away in fear”. No shots were fired and the man is said to be at home this afternoon.

One woman said: “Surely this incident emphasizes just how angry the public have become. Thankfully it didn’t end worse”.
