In a tweet posted by the official Dublin City Council twitter account @DubCityCouncil, the Council announced …

“We are excited to announce the return of the spectacular #DublinWinterLights. Switched on last night they will remain until Jan 1st. 21
locations, in the form of 2 walking trails, have been transformed with
colourful projections & lighting displays. #WinterInDublin #FeelTheMagic”

At no point in their tweet did Dublin County Council mention the word Christmas – the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The tweet features a photo of Dublin Lord Mayor and Labour Party councillor Alison Gilliland who allegedly prides herself on Diversity and Inclusion

Responses to the “Winter Lights” tweet include “Christmas lights for Christmas time!”

Another tweeted “Winter Lights? Stacks of craic that one Do you have a Winter tree & encourage visitors to do a bit of Winter shopping while listening to Winter carols?”

Another went on to say that “Nobody celebrates winter.”

Another user said tweeted “not Winter Lights, gone absolutely overboard now trying to pacify or placate pressure groups.”
