Irish writer and film director Simon Fitzmaurice passes away aged 43




Irish writer and film director Simon Fitzmaurice has passed away at the age of 43.

Fitzmaurice had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease back in 2008. At the time, doctors gave him 4 years to live, but he beat the medical odds and survived until today.

In the intervening years, he directed the film My Name Is Emily, despite complete paralysis.

Fitzmaurice is survived by his wife and five kids.
