Police in Germany have confirmed that an Irishman has been shot following an incident on Wednesday.
According to The Sun newspaper its alleged the man was threatening his ex-wife and two-year-old son at a house in the Kreetortring area of Hamburg.
It is believed the man was shot dead by police after he went towards officers with a knife.
Police say the woman and the child were uninjured in the incident.
They added that an investigation is currently ongoing.
The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that they have been informed about the incident.
