Is it fair? Move to ban the sale of disposable vapes is ‘radical’, claims Donnelly

The Cabinet approved draft legislation to further limit nicotine products, and the Minister for Health called the decision to outlaw the sale of disposable vape pens “radical,” reports Breaking News.

According to Stephen Donnelly, the move is meant to safeguard kids and young adults in light of the surge in teen vaping.

The Nicotine Inhaling Products Bill will prohibit point-of-sale advertising displays in retail establishments and limit the sale of tastes that appeal to youngsters.

According to Mr. Donnelly, there are environmental and health reasons for the introduction of the regulations, reports Breaking News.

He did acknowledge that it is still possible to buy disposable vapes online and bring them into the state.

According to him, the State is outlawing almost 16,000 different flavours of single-use vape pens.

According to Mr. Donnelly, flavourings like bubble gum target youngsters in a “very deliberate and cynical” way.

“We are inundated with vivid colours and (images) of bubble gum flavours when we walk into a newsagent or petrol station,” Mr Donnelly remarked. There is an additional benefit to prohibiting disposable vapes: it will help the environment. We observe the vapes scattered on the floor,” reports Breaking News.

He added: “The Bill that I brought to Cabinet today is a ban on disposable vapes, it has a restriction on flavours and is going down to one flavour and that can be increased by a minister through legislation. We are moving to plain packaging and we are moving to remove the point of sale,” reports Breaking News.
