Despite coalition airstrikes, ISIS forces have largely overrun the Anbar province.
Its fighters surrounded Ein-Al-Assad, one of Iraq’s largest airbases, and are reportedly preparing to launch an attack into it. The airbase is located roughly between the cities of Hit and Haditha.
Coalition forces have been attempting to fight ISIS back, but the militants have now established a firm foothold on vast swaths of territory within Iraq and Syria.
The city of Kobani, right on the Syria – Turkey border has seen heavy fighting over the last three weeks. If Kobani falls, ISIS forces will have open access into Turkey.
