The government have said they’re looking at water charges tax relief for low-income families, but water charges are here to stay.
Yesterday’s budget means that someone on €17,500 will gain benefits of €174 a year, while someone on €70,000 or even €170,000 will gain benefits of €746.
Both of these examples don’t take into account future water charges payments.
12% of people aren’t eligible for tax relief or social welfare bonuses. This includes the endeavouring classes who are self-employed who generate tax in the first place.
It’s an absolutely disgraceful Budget by Fine Gael and Labour. It’s not taking lower paid people or the ever-forgotten self employed into consideration.
