German police are looking for the man who killed three people at a street fair by stabbing them. The Islamic State organisation claimed responsibility for the incident and described it as “revenge for Muslims in Palestine and everywhere,’ reports RTE.
Following a series of festivities to commemorate the town’s 650th anniversary, hundreds of people gathered in the western town of Solingen for the opening night of a “Festival of Diversity” when the mysterious knifeman went on the rampage.
The Islamic State news agency, Amaq, said on Telegram that “a soldier of the Islamic State” group carried out yesterday’s attack on a Christian gathering in the German city of Solingen, reports RTE.
IS claimed that the attack was carried out as “revenge for Muslims in Palestine and everywhere,” ostensibly alluding to Israel’s conflict in Gaza with Hamas, a militant Palestinian organisation.
“A terrorist motive cannot be excluded” for the incident, according to statements made previously by German officials, reports RTE.
A 15-year-old is suspected of neglecting to disclose a criminal incident, according to the prosecutor who was named by the police when they stated today that they had detained someone as part of the investigation.
Markus Caspers, the prosecutor of Duesseldorf, which is located just west of Solingen, stated that witnesses had purportedly seen the teenager talking about the attack with a man who may be the knifeman just before it occurred, reports RTE.
