Italian Senator and former Deputy Prime Minster Matteo Salvini has called for a referendum in his country on open borders.

The leader of the Lega Party has said that he intends to initiate a referendum that the block the new centrist-leftist coalition government from enacting its plans to re-open the country’s ports to NGO and naval vessels ferrying migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa to Europe.

Since ousting the Lega party from government, the Five Star Movement party led by Giuseppe Conte formed a government with its longstanding enemy, the left-wing ‘Democratic party’. One of the demands of the leftists for their support was re-opening Italy’s ports to mass importation of the
Third World.

The wildly popular Matteo Salvini, however, has sworn to halt the population replacement agenda.

Speaking to a massive crowd of around 80,000 supporters in Pontida on Sunday, the former Deputy PM accused the Five Star Movement of “treason” as it had marketed itself as anti-establishment but is now reversing course and carrying out eh globalist agenda with its leftist partners.

“We will challenge these traitors who are entrenched in their offices,” the Eurosceptic senator said as tens of thousands of young supporters cheered.
“In a few months, there will be a government of the people,” Salvini added, saying that he and his Lega party seeks to initiate a referendum on Italy’s electoral laws.

The nationalist leader is clearly expecting lead Italy following the country’s next general election with opinion polls putting him and his party on course for victory.
