Italy to start giving third dose of covid vaccine from September 20th

Italy will initially give the most vulnerable people a “booster” of the Covid vaccine.
Italy will give a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from September 20, starting with those most at risk such as cancer patients and transplant recipients.

The news was announced Monday evening after a meeting between Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Italian Commissioner for Coronavirus Emergencies Francesco Paolo Figliuolo.

The third round of the Italian vaccination campaign will initially focus on people with the weakest immune systems – around three million people, according to the ANSA news agency.

Speranza said in the past few days that health officials will later decide to target the recall to people over 80 and residents of nursing homes.

More than 40 million people in Italy have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, or 74% of the population over the age of 12, as the government achieves its goal of vaccinating 80% of the population by the end of September.
