“It’s a glamorised form of tenement living” – McDonald blasts Government over proposed co-living developments




Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has blasted both the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy and the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for support purposed co-living developments in South Dublin.

Speaking before the Dáil, Ms McDonald described the proposals unappealing and an insult to those looking to secure a roof over their head.

McDonald who previously stated that both the Taoiseach and Housing Minister were out of touch with the housing crisis, also described the plans as notion more than a glamorised form of tenement living.

Although the Taoiseach has defended the Housing Minister for his comments over the proposed development, he did say it was an option in helping to address the crisis.

However despite government backing for such a project, Ms McDonald claimed that the government wasn’t listening to public opinion as the plans haven’t received widespread public support.

She added that she doesn’t the proposals exciting in the slightest and niether does the Irish public.
