It’s a terrible thing to do: Public asked not to share footage of car crash

A road safety organisation is urging the public not to share photos or videos of car accidents, reports Breaking News.

To date this year, 93 lives have been lost on Irish roads.

Gardaí frequently remind people not to distribute images from crashes where individuals have died or suffered serious injuries, reports Breaking News.

Leo Lieghio, vice-president of the Irish Road Victims Association, said people need to show more empathy.

“The first thing people do is pull out their phone and film it and then start sharing it on Facebook and not thinking, reports Breaking News.

“Not thinking about the people that are in the crash. It’s a vile thing to be doing to be honest,” reports Breaking News.

Among the 93 road fatalities recorded this year, 35 were drivers, 23 were pedestrians, and 17 were motorcyclists.

The current figure represents a decrease of 12 deaths compared to this time last year, with overall collisions also falling from 96 to 88, reports Breaking News.
