‘It’s long overdue’ – Nightlife sector calls on government to reopen nightclubs and live venues immediately

A group representing nightlife workers criticized the government’s response to the reopening, warning that the continued shutdown will lead to an increase in unregulated events.

In a letter to the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and the Minister of Art, the “Give us the night” campaign said that their industry was the only industry left with no return date and that it’s utterly ridiculous that they’re still closed.

It described government practices as inadequate, inflexible, and lacking a basic understanding of how the industry works and compared what’s going on in the UK with Ireland.

They also call on the government to allow non-socially distant events to take place in September, regardless of the number of Covid cases.

The group demanded that all live events, including nightclub events, resume no later than early October.
