According to new statistics published by the Central Statistics Office this week James has become the most popular baby name in the past year.
The name which is hugely popular in recent years and came second last year has taken the crown of most popular boys name in 2016 ending the nine year run that seen jack top top the charts.
Meanwhile Emily still remains the most popular girls name in the country with Grace coming in at number two.
There were some new comers in both top ten lists as Daniel and Conor shared third place for boys, with Sean, Noah, Adam, Oisin and Luke also making an appearance on the list.
Figures also show that Ava and Lucy were joint third in the girls list, followed by Amelia, Sophie, Emma, Mia and Hannah.
There was also a surge in less popular names last year with Muhammad, Louis, Lucas, Josh, Jason and Ollie, making the boys list.
Whilst Willow, Matilda, Harper, Heidi and Zoey, became more popular in the girls list.
