New Bill that will see repeat sex offenders having increased prison sentences is submitted before the Dáil

Repeat sex offenders could soon face tougher prison sentences in the coming months ahead after a new Bill has been presented in the Dáil that will see those found guilty of further offences serving at least three quarters of their prison sentence.

The latest Bill which is set to be discussed in before the Dáil was submitted by the Independent Alliance TD Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran on Wednesday.

It is understood that Mr Moran wants the legislation passed quickly in order to stamp out repeat offenders from ignoring their rehabilitation programme.

Speaking before the Dáil Mr Moran said he believes that such legislation must be introduced immediately in order to protect the public from dangerous predators who are completely unwilling to reform in order to re-enter society.

Mr Moran also said such offendeders attacked the unity and stability of society as a whole. “If we allow serial sex offenders continue unchecked by going on and committing similar and more serious crime without imposing a longer sentence for the subsequent offence, then society as a whole is devalued.”
