Japanese restaurant will not serve couples on Christmas Eve over fears they would make single patrons feel lonely

A handwritten sign on the door of PiaPia restaurant in Japan makes it clear that couples will not be welcome in their premises on Christmas Eve.

The reason? Well, single people might feel a little put out, dining alone next to them on such an important night.

In fact, the note goes as far as saying that such situation would cause ‘severe emotional trauma’ to those without a partner.

Christmas Eve is a working day in Japan, a country where Christianity is a minority religion. Many Japanese men and women do celebrate it though, often going for meals out and exchanging gifts.

But at PiaPia at least, Christmas Eve will be reserved for singles only this year.
