Approximately 2,000 individuals have gathered in Ballinasloe to protest what they describe as the scaling back of maternity services at Portiuncula University Hospital, reports RTE.
Participants include both local residents and a significant number of people from nearby towns and counties.
The organizers are calling for the complete reinstatement of maternity and associated healthcare services at the facility, reports RTE.
Councillor Evelyn Parsons, representing the Portiuncla Maternity Alliance, emphasized the importance of the Government recognizing the protest and halting any further reduction of services to preserve them for the future.
Marchers, under the slogan ‘Care can’t wait – reinstate’, reached the grounds of Portiuncla University Hospital after making their way through Ballinasloe’s Dunlo hill area, reports RTE.
