There is strong calls for the JobBridge scheme to overhauled as it has emerged that nearly a third of interns remain unemployed after completing the programme.

The calls come as the National Youth Council conducted a survey reviewing the scheme, the survey found that 44% of interns complained that were being used as free labour, although over half 56%, were satisfied with their experience in the scheme. The scheme has come in for strong criticism with the council saying it is too broad and lacking quality, they also say it needs to fully ensure that interns are sent to workplaces where they will actually learn new skills.

John Sweeney an analyst with the National Economic and Social Council, strongly believes that there needs to be more buy-in from companies into the scheme.
