Jobs for the boys – Report shows that 176 employees at Irish Water earn more than €100,000




A newly released report has provided details of the salaries paid at Irish Water, showing that 176 members of staff earn more than €100,000.

According to the Irish Mirror, the number of staff earning this amount has risen from 43 to 176.  The report also shows that the organisation made a profit  The government has poured money into Irish Water since water charges were suspended in 2016 and ultimately abolished in 2017.   At that stage the government had already spent more that €500 million to install approximately 820,000 water metres all over the country.

The attempts by the government to introduce water charges sparked fury among the public, who took to the streets in mass protests.

The managing director of Irish Water who Niall Gleeson.  He commented on the report, saying that providing clean drinking water “is a significant challenge due to decades of underinvestment in our water infrastructure, but we are making steady progress.”

According to the Irish Mirror, the report shows that Mr. Gleeson’s pay package is €239,000 and staff costs last year totalled €81.8 million.
