The wife of a man who was so savagely beaten by three young thugs that he now needs round-the-clock care has started a campaign to ensure that juvenile offenders don’t have their identity protected.

According to the Daily Mail, Annie Willson wants to see the creation of “Alan’s law” which would enable the public naming of dangerous juvenile criminals.  Currently, only judges can decide whether they should be publicly identified, and the judge in her husband’s case

Annie’s husband Alan was viciously beaten by Archie and George Tilley, who were just 14 and 13 when they attacked him as he tried to defend his young son. They were sentenced to 12 years and must serve a minimum of 9 years.  Harry Furlong, another attacker, was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and could be freed later this year.   The Tille

Annie said that she intends to be the first person that Furlong sees when he is released, saying that she will be at the prison gates and will ask him to come and see Alan to see what he is now obliged to endure as a result of the beating. She says that she could find it in her heart to forgive him if he expressed even one world of sorrow over what happened.

After the assault, Alan needed life-saving surgery, is no longer able to speak, and requires care around the clock. Annie lives in hope that they will be able to find someone who can help him to speak again.

Annie is adamant that the public have the right to know if dangerous criminals are living in their midst, and for that reason it is wrong to protect their identities, regardless of their age.  The judge in her husband’s case said that it was “in the interests of justice” to reveal their names.
