Jumping on the bandwagon: Four govt TDs claim they voted No in the referenda

Four TDs from the government have acknowledged not casting a vote in the Family and Care referendums held last Friday, reports RTE.

It comes after Senator Lisa Chambers of Fianna Fáil revealed yesterday that, despite advocating for a Yes vote in Dublin’s city center last month, she had also cast a ballot in favor.

The Family amendment was rejected with 67.7% of the vote, while the Care referendum was defeated with 73.9% of the vote against it, reports RTE.

Although he declined to comment on Ms. Chambers’ position, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar stated that he has always cast votes in the manner in which he ran for office. “I’m sure the majority of the Fine Gael parliamentary party voted yes in the referendums,” he continued.

Éamon Ó Cuív, the former deputy leader of Fianna Fáil, has revealed today that he voted no in both referendums.

The language of the proposed Constitutional amendments was deemed “bizarre” and unclear by the Galway-West TD, reports RTE.

In addition to not participating in a referendum advertising photo shot in Galway a few weeks ago, Mr. Ó Cuív did not advocate for a Yes vote in the referendums.
