Just 43% of people think Leo Varadkar should still remain as Tánaiste whilst being a person of interest in a Garda criminal investigation

A poll carried out this weekend by Ireland Thinks shows that 52% of those polled think that the Fine Gael leader and Tánaiste should step down temporarily during the current investigation into the leaking of the GP contract.

According to Extra.ie, a massive 43% of those polled still think Varadkar should remain in Government whilst he is the subject of a criminal investigation. 5.04% of those poled said the don’t know if Varadkar should remain or set down.

Detective Chief Superintendent Walter O’Sullivan is overseeing the investigation. A source said: ‘This was never a scoping inquiry, it has been a full criminal [investigation] from the start.’

Phone data is continuing to be examined and it is expected the Tánaiste will be interviewed under caution in the coming weeks.
