Gardai have once again issued a plea to the public asking them not to leave their pets in vehicles during the current heatwave.

The latest appeal comes after a dog was spotted inside a car with all its windows up outside a supermarket in Dundalk, Co. Louth and was posted on social media.

Thankfully, the dog was unharmed and the owner came back to the car in relatively quick time, but nonetheless these stupid incidents are completely unacceptable and very avoidable.

Gardaí have urged the public not to leave their pets unattended in hot vehicles or any other hot areas as it is highly dangerous.

People are asked to keep their pets cool, in the shade, well watered and very much minded during the hot weather. People are asked to share this information with their friends.
