Nike has alerted its retails in the United States that online coupons offering 75% discounts to “People of Colour” are bogus, RT reports.
The online prank began on the website 4chan after fake coupons featuring a picture of the new face of Nike, ex-American footballer and Black Lives Matter activist, Colin Kaepernick were shared.
Nike’s share price collapsed after the announcement of Kaepernick as its new brand ambassador with many calling for a boycott, News.com.au reported.
The footballer garnered controversy after he refused to stand for the American national anthem opting rather to kneel in the pre-game show of respect as a means to highlight racism and violence towards the African-American community.
The Black Lives Matter organization, which has received funds from organisations linked to multi-Billionaire financier George Soros, seeks to highlight racism and in particular police brutality towards African-Americans.
