#JusticeForHarvey: South Australia Rose of Tralee contestant recovered from scoliosis because unlike Harvey, she received treatment in time

Beth Mooney, the 2025 South Australia Rose, is inspiring others with her remarkable journey of resilience and recovery from scoliosis. The 24-year-old, originally from Dublin and raised in Wexford before moving to Adelaide, has overcome significant challenges posed by the spinal condition to shine as a dancer and advocate for inclusion.

Beth, who holds dual Irish and Australian citizenship, underwent spinal fusion surgery to address her scoliosis, a condition characterized by an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. “Living with scoliosis has shaped my resilience,” Beth shared in a recent statement, noting how the experience fueled her passion for helping others. Despite the complexities of the surgery, which often involves fusing vertebrae to correct spinal curvature, Beth has regained her strength and returned to her love of contemporary dance.

A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance) from Flinders University and Adelaide College of the Arts, Beth has worked with prestigious organizations like the Australian Dance Theatre and Adelaide Fringe. She also teaches Lagree fitness, empowering others to build confidence and physical strength. Her story of recovery highlights the importance of early detection and treatment, with experts like Dr. Mike Selby of the South Australian Scoliosis Service emphasizing that timely intervention can lead to better outcomes for scoliosis patients.

Beth’s journey was celebrated as she took the stage at the 2025 Rose of Tralee, where her story of perseverance resonated with audiences. Her message of inclusion and strength continues to inspire, proving that with determination and proper care, individuals with scoliosis can lead vibrant, active lives.
