Justin Trudeau narrowly secures second term as Canada’s PM with only enough seats for a minority government

Justin Trudeau has narrowly secured a second term as Canada’s Prime Minister with enough seats won by his Liberal Party winning 156 seats, 14 short of the 170 needed for a majority in the 338-seat House of Commons.

Meanwhile, the other seats in parliament were divided up between Conservatives 121, Bloc Québécois 32, New Democrats 24, Green 3, Others 1.

Trudeau’s campaign had been dogged by scandals, including the emergence of photos and video showing the young Prime Minister wearing “black and brown face” a number of different functions in his younger years.

He had also been accused of sexual impropriety by a journalist in 2018 in an incident dating back to 2001.

The loss of 20 seats for the Liberal Party means that in forming a minority government maintain stability, rather than pursuing his progressive agenda, will have to be Prime Minister Trudeau’s primary focus.
