A leaked draft of the US Supreme Court ruling that would scrap abortion rights sparked a debate among liberal lawmakers at their weekly meeting about the status of their administration’s commitments to protect children and reproductive rights.
Before this meeting, many said their campaign promises on the issue would be implemented, and the news from the United States makes it all the more urgent to do so, especially given the possibility that Canada may one day have a government that takes a Pro Life stand.
According to the Canadian Star, that’s why, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said before the meeting, he asked two of his ministers to review the “legal framework” around services like abortion “to ensure that we move forward as necessary on ensuring that not just under this government, but under any future government, the rights of women are properly protected.”
Meanwhile Pro Life Groups say that Canadians babies need to be protected from abortion and that they deserve a chance at life.
