Dramatic scenes in a Glasgow courthouse today, as 21-year-old Alexander Pacteau has entered a guilty plea to the charge of murdering Karen Buckley.

The whole indictment against Mr. Pacteau is as follows: “You Alexander Pacteau aka Alexander Barr on 12 April in motor vehicle registration no EY05 VVR at Kelvin Way, Glasgow did assault Karen Buckley, formerly of Glasgow Caledonian University, repeatedly strike her on the head and body with a spanner and compress her neck and you did murder her.”

Grim facts about the murder also emerged in court.

Pacteau first attempted to strangle Karen inside his vehicle, before bludgeoning her to death with a heavy spanner. Such was the brutality of the attack that the imprint of the wrench’s head was left in her skull.

On the fateful night, Karen had been socialising with friends but chose to walk home alone. Somewhere along the way, she accepted a lift from Mr. Pacteau, whom she had not met before.

Alexander Pacteau will now likely receive a mandatory life tariff for the brutal crime.
