An animal behaviourist and author has given an interview about why many cats fear cucumbers and will often jump away when they see the vegetable.
According to ABC News, Con Slobodchikoff, author of “Chasing Doctor Dolittle: Learning the Language of Animals,” has said that “Cats are genetically hard-wired through instinct to avoid snakes”, and the fact that cucumbers are the same shape as snakes may be the reason for their irrational fear.
While there are some who suggest placing a cucumber beside a cat to test this theory, there won’t be many cat-lovers out there who are willing to risk their beloved pet being frightened in this way.
