Kenny against the ropes and about to drown in his own hubris over Irish Water

Acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been left in a rather precarious position after a proposed sell-out of his stance on water charges in exchange for a second term.

With his willingness to sell Ireland down the river to hold on to power finally revealed, Mr. Kenny’s leadership is now in an almost untenable state.

Talks on government formation broke down once again yesterday, after Fianna Fail rejected outright the proposed ‘temporary’ suspension of water charges for six to nine months. Fianna Fail insists that charges must be scrapped for at least three to five years.

Fine Gael then proceded to accuse Fianna Fail of attempting to force a second election.

According to Fianna Fail sources, Mr. Kenny would even concede to a longer suspension period for the charges if only he could be Taoiseach again, bue Fine Gael negotiators objected to this nuance. Most now question Mr. Kenny’s leadership.

Irish Water has been an unmitigated disaster from the start, and has gone from one hapless and bungling controversy to another throughout its protracted lifetime. Now, the very existence of the poison chalice that is Irish Water threatens to undermine the very fabric of Irish society, and people won’t rest until the monster is slain.
