Kenny: “I absolutely have no intention in stepping down and I fully intend to lead the Government for the foreseeable future”

The Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has seemingly put an end to rumours surrounding his leadership after he stated that he has absolutely no intention in stepping down from his position until the next general election.

Mr Kenny who was visting his home constituency in Castlebar this afternoon told reporters that he fully intends to lead the Government for the foreseeable future.

Mr Kenny said: “I’ve always said that my intention would be to serve the full term but not to lead the party into the next General Election,” he said.

“I’ve made that perfectly clear and that’s where I am, but I have a lot of work to do in the meantime.”

The Taoiseach’s comments come after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his position, amid a number of reports circulating that he was about to step aside and end his political career earlier than expected.
