L-Drivers claim new laws are “completely unfair” as gardai seize over 1,600 vehicles since December




L-Drivers are claiming that the new laws imposed by Minister for Transport Shane Ross are completely draconian and unfair to people trying to get to work and college.

More than 1,600 cars driven by unaccompanied learner drivers have been seized by Gardai since new, more stringent legislation was introduced in December and 2,311 people have received penalty points and fines since the start of the year for not displaying ‘L’ plates.

The new legislation is aimed at encouraging individuals who are driving on learner permits for extended periods of time to sit the driving test and acquire full licences.

According to the Road Safety Authority over 41,000 people on their fourth or more learner permit for a car or B category 8,663 of whom are on their tenth learner permit.
