Labour leader Alan Kelly calls for longer and stricter lockdown

The Labour party leader Alan Kelly has called for a long and stricter lockdown in order to surpress Covid-19.

Speaking to RTE’s This Week programme, Kelly said that both the Government and the opposition made mistakes back in December and now is the time for a national aggressive suppression strategy.

Kelly told the programme now is the time for some serious decisions as the country cannot continue to go in and out of lockdowns.

The labour party leader said that mandatory quarantine should be introduced but with certain criteria around.

He added that the introduction of mandatory quarantine would significantly lessen the number of people entering the country.
