Labour’s Brendan Howlin has stepped down as party leader after dismal election performance

Brendan Howlin has announced that he is to step down as Labour Party leader in the next number of weeks.

The announcement comes after Labour’s dismal performance in the general election.

Labour won just six seats in the general election, which is one fewer than the party won in the last Dáil.

The party’s executive will now look to set a leadership contest.
