Large number of gardai drive to the Ukraine to deliver aid and are now on their way home

A 5,000 kilometre round trip with 28 gardai in convoy drove to the Slovakian/Ukrainian border over the weekend.

It’s understood that essential medicines were obtained by the Ukrainian embassy, which is part of a €5 million European union consignment that is headed towards the Ukraine.

A number of lorries will travel from central Ukraine to pick up the supplies and bring them back to orphanages and hospitals.

Some social media users have claimed that the gardai should be helping homeless Irish people here in Ireland instead of going to the Ukraine.
