Cora O’Grady, a mother of two, took part in the charity walk in the Galtymore Mountains yesterday with her children aged 11 and 8.

She was from Mitchelstown in County Cork and was part of a group that set up Galtymore as part of a number of fundraisers for the Irish Motor Neuron Association and Pieta.

The events were to support the retired RTÉ broadcaster Charlie Bird who climbed Croagh Patrick in County Mayo.

It’s understood that she was near the 3,000ft summit of Galtymore around 1pm on Sunday when he felt unwell.

Emergency personnel worked on the lady and she was airlifted to hospital but sadly was pronounced dead a short time later.

Tributes poured in, including from Charlie Bird himself, who said he was very sad to hear of her passing and that she’d be in his thoughts and prayers.
