Learn by being Creative: Primary School education set for a major overhaul that would see children learn through creative play

The Primary School education system could soon be set for major overhaul in the coming years ahead as the Department of Education are reportedly considering proposals that would see young children not learning basic subjects until the age of ten.

Under new proposals that are being discussed by Educators, policymakers and parents next week, children under the age of ten would be given an alternative curriculum that would instead focus on creative play rather than the current curriculum that focuses on a number of subjects from an early age.

It is believed the Education Minister Richard Bruton is willing to listen to all proposals made by those currently working at primary level and parents, who plan to outline a number of reforms at a conference in Dublin Castle on Tuesday.

The conference which will also act as a consultation phase will run until the end of April and is likely to hear a number of proposals from parents and teachers on how primary school education can be reformed for the better.

The conference will also hear a number of arguments on how the reforms would be beneficial to teachers as a new system would apparently give teachers more time to work with young children on an individual basis without the constraints currently imposed by the current curriculum.

It is believed the Department of Education are willing to introduce such a module after it proved successful in other European countries, with recent studies showing better performance amongst children under the new reforms.

If introduced the new play led curriculum would mark a significant change in how children are thought in the future, a change that has not been made since more than two decades
